Increasing your intake of omega-3 fatty acids may act as a buffer against dry eye, especially for older women, according to a study published in the October issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
When afflicted with dry eye, the eyes burn and feel gritty and itchy because tears evaporate too quickly. Tears are composed of three layers consisting of oil, water, and mucus, and dry eye affects the balance of these layers so that tear quality is decreased. It is the quality, in addition to the quantity, of tears that keeps eyes lubricated and comfortable.
